How to test your automatic waterer Immersion Heater before winter.

Testing the Immersion Heater in your Miraco, Ritchie and other all plastic automatic waterers is easy.

The Immersion heaters are thermostatically controlled heaters that typically have a temperature range between 45-65 degrees. They sit in the valve chamber area of the automatic waterer and heat from the chamber into the trough. The warmer water circulates into the trough as the animals drink.

Testing the heaters is quite easy, especially if you have the heaters removed from the unit. Simply stick the heaters in the freezer for 10-15 minutes. This allows the heater to become cold enough to trigger the internal thermostat. Once chilled, simply plug into any wall outlet. If the heater becomes noticeably hot, the heater is working. If not, it's time to replace the heater.
